The most important issue to me is Illegal Immigration:
The invasion of our nation must be stopped NOW! the McCain/Kennedy fiasco should have shown every politician this is VERY important.

Border security is the top priority of my vote, whoever comes out strong on this, will win the election.

      The solution: IMO
Seal the border, finish the fence guard it like our life depends on it, and THEN discuss what to do with the 20 million illegals already here.
Until the Border is secured there will be NO talk of amnesty, work visa’s or anything, the American people have had it with DC politicians.

In my opinion, the most important issue is more the Budget and Government reform. I believe we need to limit the power of the federal government by restricting the budget. That is the way our government was originally designed and how it should be today.

I would like to know one thing from each of the candidates and this question is asked in the light of the fact that we were lied into the iraq war and now we see the same drums beating for aggression against iran.
So my question to the candidates would be this…why must we support Israel unconditionally in every way, when it is evident to the rest of the world at least, that the united states is hated because of our unfair policies in favor of israel and against the arab neighbors who israel sees as most threatening?

america needs a president who can stand up for america and not bend to the will of foreign interests that will send our soldiers to die for anothers cause.

we need another john f kennedy who knew how to differentiate between the interests of the two nations and was not intimidated into a relationship with israel at the cost of alienating the rest of the arab world.

Three subjects that are near and dear to my heart are gun control, education and Iraq.

I find that conservatives are all for the 2nd Amendment and Democrats are about Gun Control. I see myself as a independent when it comes to a political platform. Gun control fails to accomplish what it is intended to which is to reduce crime. Criminals are already breaking laws what in gods name makes democrats think that yet another law to restrict guns from the law abiding citizens of the USA is going to affect crime? In fact a criminal is more likely to think twice before committing robbery or assault if there is a chance that the person they are invading maybe armed and has the right to shoot back. Granted there have been an outbreak of unfortunate shoots in this country but if you consider the number of gun owners in the U.S. vs the number of violent crimes committed by law abiding citizens it is relatively low. Additionally the crimes that are committed by people that are not normally criminals only demonstrates that if they didn’t have access to a gun they would find another way to exact retribution. It is impossible to stop all people from committing all crimes but removing our right to possess arms isn’t the fix all answer.
Education: This is a two part issue for me. First the leave no child left behind program has failed miserably because instead of funding the program and education as a whole to bring the standards up we have lowered the standards so that every child is considered equal in an attempt to spare self- esteem. Stop spending money on prison systems which is the end result of a poor education system. The second part of my issue with education is that every time we lower the standards we rob a person of a future which then creates a situation of desperation in which crime is an easy answer. Most (not all) criminals are products of their environment. In order to reduce crime it must be fought at the source which is funding education to raise the standards in ALL neighborhoods ensuring that all schools have adequate funding so that every child is RAISED to a standard.
As a veteran of two tours in Iraq I have issues with this subject. Yes we shouldn’t be over there in the first place at least not for the reasons given. Bush has manipulated and deceived the American people to the point that it is and will always be impossible to know the truth. With that said we are over there now and if we leave before the country is stable we will create a situation in which we will be forced to intervene again within 3-5 years. Remembering the amount of money it took to invade Iraq the first time it doesn’t seem plausible for our country to suffer from the economic hardships of another invasion into Iraq. Sure we have lost brothers, sisters, mother, fathers, sons and daughters over there but in retrospect the number of lives we’ve lost over there since 2003 is significantly lower than one month of any other war in history. We are there we need to finish what we’ve started. Now one of the biggest issues surrounding the occupation of Iraq is the strain it places on our current strength of troops. This could be solved if the military were to pull low and some medium security criminals from the over populated prisons and rehabilitate them in basic training and AIT. Since most crimes are a result of circumstances related to poverty and lack of education then giving them a future in the military that provides education and pay would change those situations so that many of today’s criminals wouldn’t be inclined to return to the streets and commit crimes. It would also reduce the strain on our law enforcement officers and prisons which would allow for more funding to be placed back into education so that the next generation generates less criminals and more productive citizens. Just so it is clear when I refer to taking criminals out of the jails and sending them to the military I’m not talking about the extreme cases such as murderers, child molesters and rapist I’m talking about robbers, assaults, drug dealers, most gangsters (they already understand the hierarchy of command and discipline) It’s a relatively perfect fix. Low and medium level criminals are rehabilitated into the military. This fixes the shortage that the military has and takes individuals that have made an error in judgment in their life a second chance. This also frees up funding to ensure that the cycle of breeding criminals is reduced or eliminated for the most part.

The most important issue in this election for me is education. I’m studying to become an elementary teacher and a special education teacher. It really upsets me that some of the canadidtes do not have a stance on education because without education we have no future in this country. If canadidtes are not seriously thinking about education then they need to start because the children are the future and without proper education they will not be able to lead.
The No Child Left Behind act was intended to be a way to hold poor teachers accountable for their failures in the classroom. However, all it has done is hurt so many children. NCLB has also given no thought to special education children who need the most help when being tested. I feel that canadidtes need to take a long and serious look at this issue and begin to give solutions to the many problems in education.

    6. Dezired1 Says:

If there is anything that annoys me the most, it is the issue of illegal immigration. Yes, I understand that many illegal immigrants want to come to the US because of the opportunities it holds, but come here the CORRECT way! I work in the medical field, and it really gets to me how certain people will come in with their 5 kids and NOT speak english. How is it that you come to this country and NOT speak the language? And if you are here illegally, and you are really not making money, who is taking care of those children?! It is the numerous hard working Americans who pay taxes. This is NOT fair and it has to stop NOW!

    7. AutumnS Says:

      1) Gay marriage - I firmly believe that if someone loves someone else (regardless of sex) they should be able to marry that person. Gay couples have the same chance of making it as heterosexual couples.

      2) Abortion - I think that abortion is the killing of an innocent child that has done NOTHING to you. Because of your poor judgement, and/or poor timing in your life - that does NOT mean you get to kill a child.

      3) Family - family is very important to me and I think that everyone is special in a family setting.

    8. rita Says:

I want to know the stance of Obama, Clinton, McCain, and Huckabee on the following:

Most Favored Nation Status of China.

Failure to secure our borders against illegal entry by foreign nationals.

Providing of large tax breaks to oil companies and allowing them to extract oil from public lands

without paying any royalty while failing to protect American citizens against unreasonable gas prices.

Exporting of American technology needed to secure our safety.

Violation of treaties with Native Americans.

Permitting a trade deficit that will bankrupt our future.

    9. johng101 Says:

As 2008 progresses and the election gets closer and closer, I believe that it is extremely obvious that the economy has to be the number issue. $4 gallon gasoline headed quickly towards $5 gallon. Likely the first year in the history that US will post triple digit inflation. The middle class wiped out, citizens on fixed incomes having to choose between medicine or food. More and more homeless, each day, people living in their cars if they are lucky enough to own one and our President says we might be headed for a economic slow down.
The Second most important issue is the Two party system and whether or not it is serving the citizens or the coroporations and those two parties, when the press even with the freedom of the internet, web pages like yours refuse to even acknowledge that there are third party alternatives. I myself have proposed a plan called the “one big fixx” plan, but few have heard about it because everyone is focusing on the Democratic Party’s primaries. It is time for REAL CHANGE and we won’t see it from the corporate run Two parties.
